Our Istria Olive Oil Tour incl. Istria Tips - Part 1
Mirjana Suvajac
We have been busy planning our olive oil tour over the past few days. Starting with the olive oil farmers we want to visit, to the good oils that are on our shopping list and, last but not least, we want to try out new gastronomic tips in Istria.
At the top of our to-do list was a visit to Paul von Brist. We need to quickly organize supplies of the Sta. Margherita and Delicato varieties, as we have already run out of them in the past few weeks.
A visit to the Baioco family has also been on the agenda for a long time. Baioco recently received an award from the olive oil guide Flos Olei and Ester really wanted to tell me about the news in person.
Our olive oil tour in Croatia
Our olive oil tour in Croatia started very early today. At 7 a.m. we were already on the motorway heading towards the Adriatic ;-)
We are lucky with the weather: 22 degrees and a cloudless sky.
Istria tip no. 1: Restaurant Konoba Stari Podrum in Istria
When we arrived in Croatia we wanted to try out one of our restaurant tips straight away - the Restaurant Konoba Stari Podrum in Momjam. 5 minutes before we were supposed to reach the restaurant there was a roadblock due to a bicycle race. Nothing was moving forward - "The wait is at least an hour," we were told. We decided to walk the remaining 1.5 kilometers.
The path to the restaurant was picturesque. We were surrounded by magnificent nature and wild olive trees.
After a half-hour walk we reached the Stari Podrum restaurant in Mojman. If you want to eat here, you should reserve a table the day before. Many locals appreciate the excellent cuisine.
We were warmly welcomed in the wonderful ambience.
Istria tips: Restaurant
We particularly recommend the Fuzi with white truffles - a local speciality from Istria. For the main course, don't miss the steak with Istrian truffles - also a MUST ;-)
