Flos Olei and Istria

The testers from the gourmet magazine Flos Olei present tests of over 500 different oils in Rome every year. Istrian olive oil has been on everyone's lips since 2015 at the latest and is one of the best oils from Italy, Spain, Greece, but also from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina and Uruguay. The maximum rating is 100 points. A large part of Istrian oils achieved more than 90 points in 2018 and a few peak values of 97-98 points. For us, this reference is also a determining quality criterion for the oils offered here.

Polyphenols - active ingredients in olive oil

Polyphenols keep olive oil fresh and durable for a long time. These are also very useful for humans. They have an anti-inflammatory and cancer-preventing effect and also help against diseases such as Alzheimer's or heart attacks.

High-quality olive oils contain a polyphenol content of 250 to 800 mg per liter. Cheap oils, on the other hand, usually only contain 50 to 100 mg. The oil also contains vitamin E and monounsaturated fatty acids, which are known as good fatty acids because they improve the balance of blood cholesterol levels.

The Brist family business consists of Silvano, an engineer and true perfectionist, who takes care of the olive groves and the entire production process, and Paul, the Irish son-in-law, who runs the tours and the olive shop in Vodnjan. Lena, Silvano's daughter and Paul's wife, is an archaeologist and art historian with a passionate love of gastronomy and olive oil.
