Istria and its historical roots
Istria is a country that cannot ignore its historical roots. The influence of the Venetians, Romans and the Habsburgs can be widely evidenced by the cultural assets.
The cuisine is a symbol of a mountainous hinterland, crossed by rich rivers that merge into coastal waters. This variety of landscapes creates rich dishes. Fantastic seafood thrives in coastal waters and along the Mirna River you reach the truffle area around Motovun, which offers black truffles in summer and white truffles in winter. Wild boars also roam the green forests and are processed into ham and sausages. An indigenous breed of cattle, the Boškarin, is also bred here. For a long time it was considered almost extinct.
